About Me
I graduated from Gray's School of Art in 2011 with a BA (Hons) Painting.
During my student years, I set up and ran g00glie-eye Designs, a small business selling handcrafted accessories made from recycled materials to shops throughout the UK. After graduating, I went on to complete a PGDE in Primary Teaching before working for a medical charity where I, amongst other creative tasks, run the Art in the Waiting Room project.
Current Work:
I held my first solo exhibition in 2015 and alongside further exhibitions and installations, I have been involved in a range of other projects including five public art sculpture trails including Oor Wullie Bucket trail, Anchor 20for20 Voyage and Maggie's Penguin Parade - and the production of labels for Cairn O Mohr wines. More recently, I've successfully launched Waters Edge card game (2019) plus 4 new expansion packs (2023) as well as working with a range of clients including the Highland Wildlife Park, Visit Scotland, CHSS, Edinburgh Community Food and Alice Sharp Ltd.
My vast collection of homeware & gifts feature illustrations on functional products with an aim to bring a smile to everyday living, now stocked throughout Scotland, England and further afield. I have a worldwide following thanks to my successful Etsy shop and with my first ever illustration-only exhibition in 2023, I now have originals across the world too!
Inspired by recent projects, my work continues to celebrate my interests in travel, adventure and the outdoors
as I explore the interaction / relationship of paint and paper.
About the Paintings
Intrigued by textures and marks, my paintings begin with a base layer of torn printed papers and glue before I apply a range of media; paint, pastels, tippex, more glue, cut papers. Images develop as the painting progresses and further marks are often added (using kitchen roll, charcoal, cardboard, ink and forks!) before working into the layers to create the final piece.
About the birds
The recurring imagery of birds represents my love for life and excitement of adventure - soaring high and flying free!
About the lighthouse
I became interested in the importance of a guiding light especially recognising this within our own fragile human nature and our desire to find an anchoring point of safety.
About the Illustrations
My dream of creating an illustrated storybook has begun with the development of a range of characters. I hope to combine my mixed media approach to painting to create wonderful landscapes for these characters to jump into and tell their story.
With the illustrations now available on all sorts of homeware and gifts, I hope that my bear and seagull will soon star in their very own children's book!
I'd like to read this!
